About QRoll
QRoll is an attendance tracking tool for university classrooms. It was built by Mayank Chadha, Ph.D. in 2026 while teaching at UC San Diego to make taking attendance simple and accurate.
How It Works
QRoll is invite-only, and professors can request access through Dr. Mayank Chadha. Once access is granted, professors upload the class roster, create class sessions, and conduct attendance using a QR code shared on the screen. The code can also be made to change dynamically so it cannot be shared. In addition, professors can set a premises radius, and if any student marks their attendance beyond that radius, it is reported as a flag.
Students scan the QR code with their phone. No app installation is required. Their location is checked to confirm that they are actually in the room.
Attendance appears on a live dashboard as students check in. Professors can export the data, see trends over time, and identify students who may need a check-in.
Why QRoll?
Paper sign-in sheets are easy to fake. Calling names takes too long. Clicker systems cost money. QRoll handles attendance in under a minute, works on any phone, and is free.
The rotating QR code and location check mean the record is reliable. Students have to be in the room with their phone to check in.
